Assam University Silchar
Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989(Established under an Act of Parliament) . It was established in 1994.
The campus, situated in Dargakona, about 20 kms from Silchar, is set amid sprawling hillocks, a typical landscape in the North East. The campus in an area of 600 acres surrounded by lakes and mountains provides an ideal environment for academic pursuit.
The University has sixteen Schools on major disciplines. There are 35 Departments under these sixteen Schools.
Diphu Campus
A new campus of the University at Diphu in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam was proposed as part of the University’s aim to provide the chance of Higher Education to a wider section of people as well as to satisfy a long felt demand of the people of Karbi Anglong. The foundation stone of the said campus was
laid in 1999. Conceived as an outreach campus of Assam University, academic activities in the Diphu Campus started from the Academic Session 2007-08.
